What date and where is the event ?

The races will be on August 13-15, 2021. The main venue of the Groupe Copley 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal is the Port of Montreal's Grand Quay.

Is the Groupe Copley World Triathlon for elite athletes only ? 

No, in fact it is open to anyone passionnate by fitness and sport and looking for a new challenge. Triathlon is very trendy!


Do I need to be a member of Triathlon Canada and Triathlon Quebec in order to compete at the Groupe Copley 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal ?

No. Although you will need to pay federations fees during the registration process. It's a matter of liability and/or accident insurance, and because it is a federated sport. 


At what age can I start competing for a triathlon or a duathlon ?

Races Requirements
Sprint triathlon Athlete must be over 16 on December 31st, 2020


Must the event disclaimer/waiver be signed by all ?

Yes, every individual and every team member must complete the event disclaimer/waiver. If you are signing up online, you will check a box to agree to the event disclaimer. Those signing up in person must sign a physical dislaimer form, available on-site. Entrants 18 and younger must have the waiver signed by a parent or a legal guardian. 


Is there a place to drop our belongs ?

Yes, once you're registered, let your belongs at the Drop bag area.


I registered for the event, but I can no longer do it, can I get a refund for the registration?

The Race


Do I need specific triathlon gear ?

Sometimes, triathlon seems to be a sport involving a lot of specific gear, but it's not necessarily the case.  You can use an old mountain bike and run in your favourite pair of shoes. It’s up to you to determine how much you want to invest in your gear


What rules will be used for this event?

Only the World Triathlon (TRI) rules will be used. You can read the complete TRI rules here


What is considered "Illegal equipment" in a triathlon and duathlon event?

  • Headphone(s) or headset(s)
  • Glass containers
  • Mobile phone(s) or any other electronic listening communication device
  • Cameras and GoPro’s or similar electronic devices
  • Mirrors


Will there be aid/water stations on the course ?

Yes, several aid/water stations will be placed along the run courses. Volunteers will hand out water and electrolytes only.


Can I swim, bike and run with bare chested?

No, a tri-suit or short sleeved shirt must be worn.


Is there a time limit for swimming, biking and running ?

Yes, if the latest time is exceeded the athlete will be disqualified without possibility to finish the race.



Do I have to bring a cap for the swim segment ?

Groupe Copley 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal will be providing swimming caps in different colors, depending on the start waves.


Is it accepted to wear two (2) swimming caps, one on top of the other ?

Yes, but it is not necessary. 


Do I have to swim crawl/freestyle to complete the swim portion?

No, athletes may use any stroke to propel themselves through the water. They may also tread water or float.


Do I have to dive into the water at the start of the swim segment ?

No, only the Elite athletes competing in the Groupe Copley 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal dive into the water.  All age group athletes start the swim segment already in the water


Is it accepted to wear only a bathing suit (bottom) for the swim portion if you are male?

No, you cannot swim bare chested.  A triathlon top, or suit must be worn.


Do I have to wear a wetsuit ?

The rules to use a wetsuit are different for Elite and Age Group athletes and depend on the length of the swim and the temperature of the water. Please check the Competition Rules (p.22) for all the rules regarding the wetsuit. As per the TRI Competitions rules for Age group competition, it is mandatory to wear a wetsuit when the water temperature is below 15,9°C, it is allowed when it is between 16° and 22°C, and it is forbidden when it is above 22°C. Be ready for the two options, the technical delegate will inform the participants of the final decision regarding wetsuit on race day. 



What to do when checking in your bike ?

​Please ensure that you :

  • Wear your bike helmet, fastened on your head, when you come into the check-in
  • Also bring with you any equipment that you may need into the transition area, clearly marked with the stickers provided
  • No bags will be allowed to be left in the Transition Area
  • For safety reasons, make sure that your handle bars are plugged

Last minute adjustments will be possible.


Can I listen to music for the bike segment?

No, wearing headphones or headsets, using mobile phone(s) or any other electronic listening communication device is not allowed.


What equipment is considered "illegal" during the bike segment?

Mirrors attached to the bike, helmet or glasses are not allowed during the bike segment.


What is drafting ?

Drafting is the concept of taking advantage of the wind protection provided by the cyclist ahead of you, thus spending less energy. A cyclist must ride at a close distance to enjoy the benefits of drafting. A group of cyclists can then ride in a peloton. When drafting is not allowed (Standard triathlon), each cyclist must keep a 10 meters distance with the preceding athlete, and has only 20 seconds to pass.


Is drafting allowed ?

The amateur race does not allow drafting, but it's allowed for the elite athletes races WTCS and PATCO. Aero-bars are allowed only for non drafting races.


When are TT bikes allowed ?

TT bikes are only allowed in Standard triathlons, when drafting is not allowed. For safety reasons, they cannot be used in triathlons where drafting is permitted. Please consult the TRI regulations (section 5, p.28) for more information on the cycling section.


Should the total distance and the number of laps differ, how do I know I have completed the bike segment?

You have to complete the number of laps indicated on the maps (2 for the Super Sprint and 6 for the Sprint) and not the total distance that may be advertised.


What happens if I have a problem with my bike?

Martin Swiss Cycles is the Groupe Copley 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal’s exclusive bike repair provider. They specialize in triathlon bikes and will have full maintenance services at the venue, for the age group and elite.



Do I have to run?

No, you may run or walk.


Can I listen to music while I run ?

No, wearing headphones or headsets, using mobile phone(s) or any other electronic listening communication device is not allowed.


Do I have to wear my race number bib during the run portion  of the event?

Yes, and it must be worn and visible on the front of the runner. Please consult the TRI regulations (section 2.9, p13)

Where can I park to access the venue ?

We strongly encourage you to take public transportation to the venue. 


May I take a shower after the race?

No, there is no shower at the race. 


I lost something, where can I find it ?

All the lost & found items will be brought to the Information Booth, located on the competition venue. Don' forget to mark all your belongs !
